‘Lay Our Cards’ is the debut single from South London’s Barnaby Keen. It opens with hypnotic airy synths and driving, Kate Bush-esque drums before giving way to his kaleidoscopic, psychedelic voice. “You can hear a drone through all of the verses,” he explains on the background of the track’s composition. “It gives a kind of tension where the harmony is changing around it while it stays rooted.” The multi-instrumentalist has a rich musical background, from being a part of indie-dub and electronic bands, to working with record label writing teams. His solo project is where he is able to truly express himself with artistic freedom. -Dan Peeke
